The ship rocked side to side, lulling the woman in the rumpled sheets to sleep every few minutes. She was halfway there when the slight sound of a sextant hitting the wooden desk disturbed her. A huff followed the noise, and she rose her head to see Jack in his chair, an irritated expression illuminated by the dancing candlelight.
“Jack?” she called softly.
He sighed, reaching for a hardy swig of his rum. “Yes, darling?”
“When are you coming to bed?” Her voice was heavy with drowsiness.
Jack gave her a reassuring smile, nodding back toward her on the bed.
“Soon enough. Go back to sleep,” he said.
